I mean, I don’t mind a little teasing. I’m always happy to do a little bit of back and forth between myself and Mets or Red Sox fans when it’s all in good fun.

But when people want to actively shove it in my face that the Yankees lost the league tonight? That’s not cool.

You don’t have to be a fan of the Yankees. You can support whoever you want. Hell, I may even agree with you on some points of other teams. I’m really glad Bobby Valentine got fired, for instance. I want other teams to do well. Even the Red Sox. It’s no fun if our biggest rivals suck.

But rubbing it in that the Yankees were swept? That’s unnecessary, mean-spirited, and just cruel.

Do it to the fans who have been super annoying. I will never deny that there are obnoxious Yankee fans, and if they’ve been frothing at the mouth for the Yankees and this is your comeuppance, do what you’ve got to do.

But don’t insist that the Yankees are terrible because they lost this series to everyone that you know. And particularly don’t do it to me.

I do my best to be a good fan. I’d appreciate it if the people around me would do the same.

(…Particularly if your team didn’t even make it to the playoffs.

Mets and Red Sox fans have more reason to dislike the Yankees than anyone else, but neither team made it to the playoffs… in fact, both were close to the bottom of their division, if not the actual worst team. So a little teasing is one thing, but, you know, put up or shut up. Mindless hate because you’re bitter that your team lost worse is unnecessary.)

TL;DR: A little bit of sports-related teasing is one thing - I enjoy that. But there are some people that I know that need to stop making absolutely certain that I know every detail of how the Yankees lost the league playoffs tonight.
